- Gases of natural origin are often used as mixtures, these mixtures are used to reduce the amount of oxygen to less than 15% and above 12%. An oxygen level below 15% will not allow the fire to ignite because the oxygen is simply not there to fuel the fire. An oxygen level of 12% to 15% is sufficient to sustain human life. An oxygen concentration of 12% to 10% will show visible signs of a suffocation effect. Oxygen levels below 10% are extremely dangerous.
