- Metal fires pose special problems for firefighting operations because water or foam cannot be used as extinguishing agents because some metals react violently with water even at room temperature. Conventional dry chemical powders are not suitable for metal fires.
- KV-LITE TEC is developed, registered and patented by ISRO, Government of India Aerospace Division. We are licensed to manufacture TEC with the permission of the Technology Transfer Agreement.
- KVR LITE TEC is a dry powder based on Ternary Eutectic Chloride (TEC) specially formulated as a eutectic mixture of 3 (ternary) salts for metal fires. It is treated with special chemicals to impart excellent water repellency and flow properties.
Applications
- KV-LITE TEC powder should be applied gently, either through the extinguisher's diffuser or through an automatic powder dispensing system. High pressure can splatter burning metal and fire can start elsewhere. The dry powder can also be applied by hand over burning metal with a spoon, shovel or plastic bag. Care should be taken to completely cover the surface without pinholes and then undisturbed for at least 30 to 45 minutes. - We have developed fire extinguishers with pressure regulating valve to control gas pressure & specially designed dome (diffuser) and extension tube to achieve effective gentle powder distribution from safe distance. Wheeled fire extinguishers are designed to provide easy maneuverability with minimal effort. They are available in different sizes and capacities.
- KV-LITE TEC powder fuse at temperature. 600 600 650 C and has a high fusion heat capacity. The powder absorbs heat from burning metal and forms a hard shell on the surface, providing a covering effect, thereby cutting off oxygen and heat radiation from burning the metal surface. The chloride radicals of the powder react with the free radicals of the metal responsible for propagating the fire, leading to a retardation of the chain reaction. The unique composition of the ternary eutectic chloride of the alkali metals gives rapid and effective quenching, unmatched by conventional mixtures of chloride salts or phosphate powders.
- KV-LITE TEC is suitable for class D fire hazard including reactive metals such as Li, Na, K, Mg, Al powders and pastes, Ti, Fe and their alloys. Powders have also been tested with the explosive composition of these metals as well as delayed detonation preparations. It is also used for ammonium perchlorate and other compounds. KV-LITE TEC can extinguish small oil fires and can also be used for electrical fires.
