3. Specifications and description of high expansion coefficient foam system
- The system uses a synthetic foam concentrate along with fresh water/sea water and internal air to create firefighting foam. The system consists of the foam generator, foam concentrator, atmospheric pressure foam tank and other system components such as water and foam pump(s), foam equalizer, distribution pipe made of galvanized steel zinc or equivalent corrosion resistant material, filters, valves, check- and blow-through lines, electrical and control systems. When the system is activated, the foam concentrate is mixed with water and discharged into the protected space through the foam generator. Working pressure is 6 bar with foam generator. For optimal effectiveness, it is important to mix the water-to-water concentrate in the correct ratio throughout the foaming process. This is ensured by the equalizer providing the right mix over the full operating range. The foam generator expands the foam mixture using air drawn from the protected space. Foam is discharged from the foam generator against fire hazards and completely fills the protected space. The system can be manually released from the foam room by directly operating the valves and pumps. It can also be operated remotely using a centrally located control cabinet for operational flexibility.
